Leggera Competition rims for Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y
Product details
Looking for lightweight rims?
You've come to the right place. Save over 100 kg on your vehicle with our complete kit.
For example, the Competition Leggera 20" wheels for Tesla Model 3 weigh 9.3 kg, making them the lightest 20" wheels on the market rims on the market.
VIA, JWL and ISO9001 certified, these are quality wheels with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 800kg.
Rims are the unsprung masses of a vehicle, and are thethey are the part of the vehicle that exactly follows the undulations of the track. The unsprung masses have a negative effect on vehicle comfort, handling, fuel consumption, safety and reliability.
Impact on acceleration and braking:
- The heavier the wheel, the more energy is required to set it in motion and, consequently, to stop it.
- A heavy wheel requires more force from the motor (torque), which reduces acceleration.
- On the other hand, a lighter wheel is more efficient, requiring less force from the motor.
- It's easier to stop a 1kg wheel in rotation than a 100kg wheel, as it develops less inertia.
- The heavier the wheel, the less effective the braking.
Impact on fuel consumption:
- Fuel consumption depends on the vehicle and the energy consumed by the engine to set the car in motion.
- Consequently, a lighter wheel will require less energy to accelerate.
- The engine being less solicited with lighter wheels will allow better acceleration which allows you to save on consumption.
Impact on performance:
- Forged rims are manufactured in such a way as to increase rigidity while reducing weight.
- Cut from raw pieces of 6061 aeronautical aluminum, the rim's density is better than that of cast aluminum. Indeed, cast aluminum may have imperfections, but also a lower density, which will impact rim stiffness and weight.
- As a result, the stiffer the rim, the better the handling, as this reduces deflection (the difference between the radii of the stressed and unstressed tire) when cornering.
How to save over 100 kg on a Tesla Model 3 ?
Unsprung weight represents a ratio of 1:6 compared with sprung weight. In other words, every kilogram saved between suspension and wheel represents a total saving of 6 kg on the weight of the vehicle in motion.
The rims proposed above weigh 9.3 kg, compared with 14 kg for the original Tesla Model 3 Performance rims.
This saving of 4.7 kg per rim represents a saving of almost 112.8 kg in terms of suspended mass ratio.
To this we can add titanium nuts weighing just 16g, compared with 46g for the original rims.
All in all, savings of 18.8kg for the 4 rims and 600g for the nuts, in unsprung weight.
This represents a saving of almost 116.4 kg in suspended mass.
