Tesla Issues Recalls for Cybertruck

Tesla has recently faced two significant recalls for its highly anticipated Cybertruck. These recalls, which affect over 11,000 vehicles, address critical issues related to the trunk bed trim and the windshield wiper. The first problem involves a cosmetic trim piece that may detach while driving, posing potential safety risks. The second issue concerns the windshield wiper motor controller, which may fail due to electrical overstress. Both recalls demonstrate Tesla’s commitment to addressing manufacturing defects and ensuring customer safety without cost to the owners.

Tesla Cybertruck: Trunk Bed Trim Issue

The first issue concerns the trunk bed trim, notably the sail applique, a cosmetic item on the trunk bed’s exterior. This trim may detach while driving if it has not been properly placed. This bug affects 11,383 Cybertrucks manufactured after May 26, 2024. The sail applique is connected with glue. However, in some cases, the adhesive or the applique did not fulfill the acceptable criteria, causing the trim to loosen or fall off.

At no charge to the customer, Tesla will replace or rework the sail applique such that the assembly meets specifications and ensures sufficient adhesion between the applique and the vehicle’s deck rail.

There have been a few reports of this issue, which Tesla has confirmed in their notice to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Cybertruck is equipped with a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the trunk bed trim, known as the sail applique, which is affixed to the vehicle with adhesive. On affected vehicles, the sail applique or adhesion may not have been installed according to specification, which may cause the sail applique to become loose or separate from the vehicle.

To address this, Tesla will replace or rework the sail applique for free, ensuring the part meets specifications and adheres properly.

Windshield Wiper Failure

The second recall is the windshield wiper, which affects 11,688 Cybertrucks. The problem is with the windshield wiper motor controller, which may stop working due to electrical overload impacting the gate driver component. Although only 2% of the vehicles are believed to be affected, the malfunctioning wiper motor was discovered during a service inspection in February. Valeo Sistemas Electricos of Mexico made this item.

On affected vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component.

By June 12, Tesla had decided to recall the impacted vehicles. They will repair the problem at no cost to the customer and collaborate with the supplier to ensure that future motors satisfy quality specifications.

Both recalls highlight Tesla’s dedication to safety. The organization is taking steps to address the issues and prevent future occurrences. Customers will not be charged for repairs.
