Tesla: Energy Boost for Model Y RWD and Relaunches Model 3 Long Range RWD

Tesla Launches 'Energy Boost' for Model Y RWD and Relaunches Model 3 Long Range RWD

Tesla continues to innovate with intriguing enhancements to its electric vehicles. The new Energy Boost software upgrade increases the driving range for Model Y RWD owners in the United States by up to 50 miles (80 kilometers). Meanwhile, Tesla has reintroduced the Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive, which provides longer range and improved performance at a competitive price. Let’s look at these enhancements and what they signify for Tesla drivers.

What is Energy Boost?

Energy Boost is a software upgrade extending the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) driving range. It provides up to 50 miles (80 kilometers) of additional range, making long travels more convenient and minimizing the number of charging stops.

The Energy Boost upgrade costs US$1,000. Owners can increase their range by 30 miles (48 kilometers) for this price. A higher-tier option is available for US$1,600, which adds 50 miles of range. The options available to an owner are determined by the type of battery installed in their vehicle.

Musk’s Announcement

Elon Musk has announced the release of the Energy Boost upgrade on X (previously known as Twitter). Notably, the actual cost of the upgrade is lower than Musk’s initial estimate earlier this year. He said it may cost up to US$2,000 at the time, so the present price is a welcome surprise for many owners.

How to Get the Upgrade

Owners of the Model Y RWD can easily purchase the Energy Boost upgrade using the Tesla app. Once purchased, the upgrade is installed through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. This smooth updating process puts the Model Y RWD’s driving range closer to that of the new entry-level Model Y Long Range RWD, which has a range of 320 miles (515 kilometers) on a full charge.

The Energy Boost upgrade is only available to Model Y RWD owners in the United States. Unfortunately, Canadian Model Y RWD owners are unable to obtain this upgrade. The Model Y RWD version marketed in Canada has a different battery (LFP), incompatible with the Energy Boost software.

Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD Relaunch

In addition to the Energy Boost for the Model Y, Tesla has brought back the Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel-Drive. This reintroduction adds an economical, high-performance option to Tesla’s successful electric sedan portfolio.

The new Model 3 Long Range RWD can travel up to 363 miles (EPA estimated) on a single charge. This great range makes it a viable option for long-distance driving. The Model 3 Long Range RWD is sold at $29,990, including the federal tax credit and expected gas savings.

Travel up to 363 miles (EPA est.) on a single charge and enjoy the performance and handling of our rear-wheel drive powertrain for longer. Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is here, starting at $29,990* after federal tax credit and estimated gas savings.

Tesla: Performance Upgrades

This latest version of the Model 3 Long Range RWD increases approximately 100 miles of range over prior models while improving the 0-60 mph acceleration time by nearly a full second. This innovation creates a more dynamic driving experience by combining efficiency and performance.

The Model 3 Long Range RWD qualifies for the maximum $7,500 federal tax credit. This qualification implies that the vehicle employs Panasonic cells, contributing to its longer range and performance.

Tesla’s most recent offers, including the Energy Boost for Model Y RWD and the reintroduction of the Model 3 Long Range RWD, dramatically improve the value and performance of its electric vehicles. These enhancements give consumers more options for increased range and greater driving characteristics, cementing Tesla’s position as the market leader in electric vehicles.
