Tesla’s CEO has announced it and as expected it’s going to be a big hit! The Giga Berlin will therefore be the centre of numerous technological tests aimed at making vehicle production simpler, cheaper but also more efficient. On the menu are a rear and front axle in one piece, a battery serving as a chassis that connects the two parts, a new painting technique and the famous 4680 batteries. Elon Musk had announced earlier that the Model Y would have a “basic structural design change” but we learn that the Giga Berlin will be the test centre for all these technologies, with a significant production risk. So we hope not, but can expect manufacturing delays in the development of these new methods. The experience is clear, according to the CEO, all this is aimed at improving production methods to be deployed in Fremont and Shanghai in 2023. After these announcements, many people were concerned about the reparability of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Elon Musk quickly reacted by saying that the vehicle’s absorption rails are intended to be cut out and replaced by a bolted part. On the battery side, in order to adopt the new design where the battery pack acts as the chassis, Tesla is forced to use the last battery structure presented, called the “4680” battery. As a result, the Model Y made in Germany will be the first Tesla vehicle to benefit from this major evolution! Finally, an anonymous source from Tesmanian claims that after the bank holiday in China at the beginning of October, the factory will start to set up production of the Model Y, an acceleration which will result in deliveries to China at the end of the year, but also, according to the same source, an import into Europe of this Model Y Made In China (MIC). If this were to become reality, future owners would then be faced with a real dilemma: should they wait for a Model Y Made In Germany with all the technologies mentioned above, or should they take a Model Y Made In China, surely with LFP batteries ( lithium iron phosphate batterywithout cobalt)? Finally, on a completely different note, Tesla is beginning to replace its fleet of mobile combustion-powered intervention vehicles with Tesla Model Ys. This seemingly innocuous transition shows and highlights the versatility that this Model Y will offer. It will, without a doubt, be one of their biggest successes in an era where the SUV is king.
