Employees at MSNBC, who are already wary of the political atmosphere, are more tense now because of Musk’s remarks. The network has been called “the world’s biggest political contribution to the Radical Left Democrats” by Trump in the past.

The potential for “media capture,” a practice in which media outlets are purchased to further particular political agendas, adds to the staff’s concerns. “We are in danger of seeing autocratic capture across the American marketplace,” Ian Bassin, an executive with Protect Democracy, cautioned.
